![]() ![]() : )ĭid hellboy bother you at all in this movie-like being selfish? At the beginning when the tooth fairies attack one of his human co-workers, he didn't really lament or try to stop it, yet Abe tries to help another human even as he's getting attacked. I like the "humans being born with a hole in their heart" thing.īTW-I love Nuada visually, and if you make a costume you are really proud of, I would love to see a picture of it. I don't know, I guess I don't want to just completely dismiss him that way. I think Guillermo's making Nuada more sympathetic is something I prefer-seeing someone more fleshed out-not completely evil. (There's a line about the golden army doesn't discriminate who they kill.). because Nuada comes across as even more dark. Prince Nuada is a whole new character not in the hellboy cannon. Wikipedia does a good article on Mike Mignola's HB-you'll find the specifics about his parentage, the destiny of him and his hand, etc. I like Guillermo's interpretation of Mignola's hellboy. (His "right hand of doom" can also be a key between worlds) or/and his bkgd which makes the whole nature vs nurture argument sort of play out-with Professor Trevor Bruttenholm having raised him here instead (and then HB's enjoyment of simple pleasures like cats and pancakes. God it's been 3 or 4 years since I read any of the comics.but yeah.HB's hand and his bkgd comes into play in his "destiny." I'm glad you found this thread, EGD - it's the first thread I've started, and only three replies was making me feel quite lonely! :( I'll be interested to see what sort of twisted 'goodie' he kills next time round! Whereas Hellboy, in the gung-ho superhero way, kills the last of the forest god elementals to save a few people, and by doing so allows all people to carry on buggering up the world. Good point, because whilst Nuada's not necessarily a nice character, presumably having been twisted by centuries of living in exile and watching what man is doing to the earth, he is seeing the bigger picture - that is, that man is going to destroy a lot more than just the human race by what he's doing. ![]() When Nuada dies, he says 'now we die, and the world will be poorer for it.' ![]() At one point Nuada actually says something on the lines of 'you're sent here to destroy the world, and you still think you're one of them?'Īnd when Hellboy challenges Nuada to single combat, it's pointed out that he's a worthy royal challenger, as he's the son of the fallen one, ie the Devil. There are all sorts of indications that Hellboy, in spite of all his good intentions, is all set to destroy the world. I'm going to a fancy dress party as Nuada soon, so have watched the film three times now, but I keep forgetting to get the details of his costume and end up seeing other layers to what can, if you want, just be seen as an action movie. ![]()
